Continue Time by Sander Mulder

"On the Continue Time clock two out of three pointers rotate around another pointer, instead of the central point on the clock face as with traditional clocks...

From Sander Mulder:

While moving to a new house our clock was damaged severely in transport, to a point where it's minutes- and seconds pointer fell of the central axis, and where just laying in the transparent bubble cover. Witnessing the random patterns that occurred with the hour pointer still rotating, the first concept for the Continue Time clock was born.
After several years of development, this innovative clock finally became reality. The resulting kinetic artwork, and functional clock, is continuously changing its shape during a full rotation of twelve hours. While creating mesmerizing patterns on your wall, the pointers are still read as with any traditional clock."

Marc Newson Trek TTX Art Bike

"Continuing his tradition of riding art bikes throughout his 2009 racing schedule to bring awareness to his forthcoming “STAGES” anti-cancer art show, ST buddy LANCE ARMSTRONGjumped out of the starting gate at this year’s TOUR DE FRANCE on a new prototype TREK TTXtime trial bike (currently the most technologically advanced ride on the planet) customized by none other than design legend MARC NEWSON. Featuring a badass all-flat black paintjob with glossy yellow details, including a stroboscopic pattern on the rear disc wheel that pulses when spinning, the bike is a to-die-for addition to the quiver. Following up with a blazing time at yesterday’s Team Time Trial that pushed him into second place, we can’t help but think the bike must’ve had something to do with it. Sorry Lance, this year it IS about the bike. Stay tuned for sneek peeks at Lance’s upcoming ST-curated art bikes by YOSHITOMO NARA and DAMIEN HIRST coming soon.

As an added bonus all of Lance’s 2009 art bikes will be auctioned off by SOTHEBY’S on October 2nd at the VIP gala opening reception for “Stages” at the Park Avenue Armory with all proceeds going to benefit LIVESTRONG."

Officially Official: Ferrari 458 Italia announced!

After months of speculation and spy shots, Maranello has finally revealed the mid-engined V8 replacement for the Ferrari F430. The all-new Ferrari 458 Italia won't be shown in public until September's Frankfurt Motor Show, but the official details were released early this morning. A new direct-injected 4.5-liter V8 ups the ante underhood, pumping out 562 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque. The redline? A screaming 9,000 rpm. Eighty percent of the F458 Italia's torque is now available at a low 3,250 rpm, thanks in all likelihood to the new engine's 12.5:1 compression ratio.

As with last year's California, the Ferrari 458 gets a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox that directs power to the rear axle. Much has been done to reduce internal friction within the new V8, in addition aerodynamic drag improvements. As a result, the Ferrari 458 Italia's gas mileage improves to a combined 17.1 mpg (US) on the EU test cycle. As this is a Ferrari, talk of fuel consumption really does seem somewhat pointless, anyway. No mention of incorporating any type of KERS hybrid system has been made thus far. The KERS idea, you'll remember, had taken several spins around the rumormill over the last year or so; maybe that'll materialize at a later date.

Like its predecessor, the Ferrari 458 Italia's aluminum structure helps keep weight under control -- it tips the scales at just 3,042 pounds dry. So, we know you're wondering: How quick is it? Based on specs at least, this new coupe does't disappoint. Acceleration to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes just 3.4 seconds, and this will be the first volume production Ferrari V8 to top the 200 mph barrier, with a top whack of 202 mph. Is it still too early to head to the airport for our flight to Frankfurt in September?

Crazy Russian Sukhoi Su-35 Pilot Ejects For a Movie Scene at Mach 2

"This is one of those stories that's so crazy it is probably true.
Here's how it goes: A Russian movie company hires two Sukhoi pilots to film a couple of stunts. The pilots
agree to take off without a canopy. Apparently following a plot-twist in the film, the back-seat pilot ejects from the aircraft while the front-seater keeps flying.

The front-seater later claims he flew beyond Mach 2.0 ... with an open canopy! And then he says: "While on this speed I even managed to pull out my fingers in glove for an inch or two outside - it became heated very fast because of immense friction force plane undergoes with the air."

Oh, and this was all done with Sukhoi's tail number 801, which is nothing less than the SU-35UB prototype -- one of the most advanced jets Sukhoi ever built!"

Deep Flight Super Falcon

(Photograph by Toby Burditt)

"Graham Hawkes has spent most of his life creating new ways to plumb the ocean’s depths. Earlier this year he publicly unveiled his latest vehicle: a sleek, winged submersible dubbed the Deep Flight Super Falcon, which operates on principles of lift and drag, like an airplane. The craft, which should provide unprecedented subsea speed and maneuverability, will be used to ferry policymakers and others into the country’s national marine sanctuaries. And the Super Falcon design is production-ready, so yachters and other wealthy nature lovers can buy their own. The price tag: about $1.5 million. "

BMW S.X Concept

"The BMW S.X concept is the work of designer Iulian Bumbu, who had earlier created theLamborghini Insecta concept. The concept delves into what a future sports luxury coupe from BMW might look like, and is positioned as a successor to the BMW 6-series. The design exercisecontinues with BMW’s “flame-surfacing styling language” and maintains a sense of uniformity and continuity throughout the exterior.

The design has high-mount brake lights incorporated into the edges of the rear window, and lateral vents are placed just behind the front wheels. The design strikes a balance; it is neither aradical departure from the BMW design language, nor does it blindly follow the same."
